So then I started thinking about the Republican field. I was just starting to like Rick Santorum when he declared that auto mechanics are respectable and make good livings. Then, he had to open his mouth about Social Security. He wants to push the age back even further so that when you are 80 or older, now you can draw benefits. I don’t see the average 80 year old working as a teacher or driving a beer truck around. The American people have worked hard and they deserve their retirement benefits. Our military deserves disability insurance so that if god forbid they are to get injured, they will be able to be independent.

Mitt Romney is basically the only one who agrees. Obama also agrees with these programs.

This will be a deciding factor in Florida. You don’t send our soldiers off to war, fund bank and auto bailouts, and then say there is nothing left for social security. In 2001, a provision was made by social security that eliminated active duty soldiers from getting a few extra credits for their service. I am even for restoring that credit to active duty soldiers.

Then you have Ron Paul who notoriously called Newt Gingrich a chickenhawk for not going to Vietnam. He then stated that anyone who has the power to declare war, should have served in the armed forces themselves. On that point, I am with Ron Paul. While we are raiding the social security trust fund, we contributed billions to the war trust fund.

Overall, Obama has made good on some of his promises to take care of veterans. The only thing that could be improved is the time it takes for claims and appeals to be heard. His wife is now trying to raise money for PTSD care for veterans.

I am getting this sense that one party wants to keep the programs and the other party wants to dismantle them. This country needs to take a cue from the many president’s that have come before us and vow to save the programs that disabled veterans need.

And….if you haven’t served in the military, then you shouldn’t be able to vote to dismantle any programs that would affect disabled veterans. Back when things were honest and right, no politician would have dared thrown a disabled veteran under the bus.

These issues will decide elections. It is certainly on the mind of a lot of people in this area.

Take all necessary precautions this tax season and for the love of your country, don’t answer the door if you don’t know who is behind it by facial recognition.

Help a fellow soldier out, know someone who is hurting disabled veterans with the turbo-tax scheme? Do the right thing and drop us a name and any evidence. We try anyway. Sometimes we fail. Like in the case of Scott Sciple. Some have not forgotten your service and want your release so that you can get the proper help and medical treatment that you deserve and need. It got me to thinking…Do we really take care of our own?

There is a very real problem facing disabled veterans. The only person who even seems to remotely give a hoot is Senator Bill Nelson. You have high rates of PTSD, suicide, pain, and disability benefits and appeals taking years upon years to complete. If you make it back in one piece, chances are, you have a whole lot of other problems.

Which is why the case of Alexander Lenox stealing wounded warriors ID’s, is particularly troubling.

That if they are killed in action, that their body be returned home to their family and not left behind in a foreign country. That they be given a proper funeral for their family. That’s it. We all know what happens to veterans if they are able to make it back home. Just this morning, I found out that an appeal to the Department of Veterans Affairs could last up to ten years or longer. Does anyone think that we are treating veterans right by making them wait ten years or more to have a simple appeal heard?

Then, I have to read about this happening. The Department of Veterans affairs needs to rectify this situation for the family. Whatever it takes. Make sure this wife and family are getting the proper death pensions. Make sure they have proper health care so the entire family can now get counseling.
